Southwest adds yet another nonstop destination from New Orleans - 8/29/2014 -

Service to San Antonio to Start in March 2015

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) – The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is pleased to announce that Southwest Airlines, the major low cost carrier in New Orleans, will begin daily non-stop service to San Antonio from New Orleans on April 7, 2015 aboard their 143 seat Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Service will be available for sale mid to late October 2014.

Leading up to the daily service, Southwest will offer Saturday only flights during March 2015 and these flights are currently open for reservations at or 1-800-435-9792. Saturday flights will depart New Orleans at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in San Antonio at 10:15 a.m. The San Antonio departure will be at 7:15 a.m. and arrive in New Orleans at 8:45 a.m. Southwest had previously announced limited direct service to San Antonio for the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday season.

Additionally, flights to Milwaukee on Southwest Airlines will return to daily service beginning in March 2015. The scheduled addition of San Antonio to Southwest’s route schedule will increase the total number of Armstrong International’s non-stop destinations to the pre-Katrina level of 42.

"We are delighted that Southwest is increasing service to another popular destination like San Antonio,” said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "This is one more sign that Southwest Airlines has faith in our market as we both continue to grow.”

"San Antonio is an important addition to our non-stop destinations,” said New Orleans Aviation Board Chairwoman, Cheryl Teamer. "We thank Southwest for their continued investment in our community.”

"We appreciate Southwest Airlines’ commitment to our city,” said New Orleans Councilman Jared Brossett, Chair of the Transportation and Aviation Committee. "The addition of San Antonio is a win for our community.”

Iftikhar Ahmad, Director of Aviation said, " The addition of this flight to our list of non-stop destinations will take us to a total number of 42 which was the highest number of non-stops that were available to our community before the impact of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.”
