The New Orleans Aviation Board has received a $4
Million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP)
Discretionary Grant for its North Perimeter Road Improvements project.
The North Perimeter Road Improvement is a
critical safety enhancement project that will help reduce the chance of a
runway incursion by providing a paved access roadway around the airfield.
The project will widen the perimeter road and upgrade the surface from gravel
to concrete, an important safety enhancement for fuel trucks and fire
response. Bids for the construction of the North Perimeter Road are due
on July 13.
"We are pleased with the FAA’s response to
our requests and their continued support of the modernization of our facilities
at Armstrong,” stated Iftikhar Ahmad, Director of Aviation at Armstrong
International Airport.
